The Second Grade class is excited to learn about Saint Patrick's Day and Lent this month. So many fun and exciting things to learn about these two special times of the year. We will also continue to build on our cursive handwriting skills. Some of the other things we will be doing and learning this month:
Religion: We will begin this month focusing on Lent. We will learn that Lent is a time of preparation for Easter. Lent is meant to be a time of reflection. We will also be learning about the two main parts of the mass. We will learn about the readings from the Old and New Testament, the Gospel, Homily and the Eucharist Song.
Math: Our focus will be learning about money, recognizing coins and their values, counting money and making change. We will continue to add and subtract double digits with and without regrouping, review basic math facts in Math Olympics. We now have 5 Math Olympic Math Champions completing 100 math facts correctly in 3 minutes and 1 Bonus Math Olympian completing 140 Math facts in 3 minutes.
Phonics: Our focus this month will be adding vowel and consonant suffixes to words, prefixes, synonyms, antonyms, homonyms and closed syllables with exceptions. We will continue to review the different syllable types and how to divide words into syllables.

Social Studies: My students will learn about Where People Live, and why people migrate from one place to another. We will read about two children who traveled from Poland to Ellis Island on a ship. Next, we will learn about different kinds of communities and environments, urban, suburbs and rural
Handwriting: We are working on writing cursive lower case letters and we will begin writing our first and last names in cursive.
