December in 5J

Religion: As we enter the Advent season we will be preparing for Jesus' birth by doing kind deeds for others. In chapter 8 we will learn about the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost and how the Holy Spirit strengthens us today.. The students have been working on a Jessie tree project as well.

.5th Social Studies: We will continue to finish our chapter about the early colonies in America. We will also be doing a project-based unit about the history of Christmas in America.
4th Social Studies: Chapter 3 has just wrapped up with a project in which the students wrote letters to Senators Hassen and Shaheen regarding a community issue here in NH. We will also be doing a project-based unit on geography in the US. We will explore different Christmas towns across America and how they celebrate the holidays.
ELA: As we read a realistic fiction story from the book Hatchet and an informational text about Tracking Monsters we will learn about r- controlled vowels and prefixes. We will work on various comprehension strategies such as point of view and confirming and correcting predictions. Students will begin a research paper that coincides with their Social Studies unit.
