May News
It's May! This year seems to be going by at an unbelievable pace. There are many events happening this month. We have our third round of i-ready in the second week of May. If students are absent, we will arrange for them to test at another time. We have our May Crowning on the 7th. Eileen will be crowning Mary this year. It is always a special event. On the 19th, we have the STEM fair. The children always look forward to this day. The 5th grade is completing STEM activities in their math and homeroom classes. They are doing amazing work!
May is for Mary! We will focus our study on Mary this month in Theology. We have a few special assignments for them to complete.
In Spelling, are word match our reading story. There is nightly practice and words are listed in the agenda.
In Literature, we are reading My Side of the Mountain. We are completing activities on the book daily. We are also focusing on writing during this unit. This month's genre is realistic fiction, and we are providing the book. Reading and activities will be completed both in class and at home.
In 5th grade math, students are starting measurement. We are working in both the customary units of measurement and the metric system. "King Henry Doesn't Usually Drink Chocolate Milk," will probably be heard throughout your houses. In small groups, they will create their "Gallon Man" projects, which will be found throughout our wing. They will have a much easier time with the metric system, since the conversions are easier. Weekly IXL is still due every Friday. The sections are II to JJ.
In the 4th grade, students are finishing perimeter, area, and volume. They will have a brief measuring unit, and will finish the year with a simple algebra unit. They've been waiting all year for this. Weekly, graded IXL is still due every Friday. IXL sections are GG and HH.
My Accelerated Math friends are in starting algebra. We are having fun plugging in variables. Next we will isolate our variables to solve for x. We love math!
