Kindergarten Art Class

Your Kindergarten student will have Art Class every other week for 45 minutes. My kindergarteners are so excited for art! We begin with a series of projects using Peter Reynolds “The Dot” as a jumping off point.  My goal is to cultivate self-confidence in my Kindergarteners by demonstrating “If you can make a dot, you can make art!” We will be strengthening fine motor skills such as cutting, gluing and coloring in art class. We will learn how to use our basic elements of art, like Line, Color and Shape to create our artwork. I love to do directed drawing activities of some of our favorite children’s book characters, such as the Cat in the Hat. In a directed drawing activity, students identify core shapes and lines from observation and use them to draw step-by-step with the instructor. I love inviting students to add their own ideas at the end of these activities! We will be using storytelling and the Elements of Art for the inspiration of many activities in kindergarten.
