I have enjoyed getting to know each student this month. To prepare us for the school year, we took time to learn rules, routines, and organization skills. All the students have demonstrated kindness, patience, and perseverance.

ELA- We have studied and analyzed the characters in Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. We also journaled and discussed themes of the novel, such as courage and friendship. Later this month, we will read a collection of poetry about Early Explorers. We will cover different elements of poetry and write our own poems.

Religion- We began our year with a retreat day, discussing the Fruits of the Holy Spirit, with a focus on kindness. We explored how we can live more like Jesus. Fr. David led us in Adoration, and Mrs. Hickey, our guidance counselor, read us Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodson. In Theology class, we are reading the book The Body Speaks a Language. We talk about valuing others, being honest, and speaking with love. It reinforces the lesson about living more like Jesus.

5th Grade Social Studies- We practiced our map skills and learned the differences between primary and secondary sources. Students were given the guidelines to run for Student Council. Speeches and voting will occur at the end of the month.

4th Grade Social Studies- This month, we focused on learning about our state of New Hampshire. In class, fourth graders spent time creating a book about New Hampshire.  Some information included in their books is climate, culture, a map, and a timeline. Students also researched notable people from NH and historical or natural landmarks. Fourth graders also had the opportunity to run for Student Council.

Community- We will meet our kindergarten buddies and together attend the whole school mass.
