Reading- We are reading informational texts. We talked about the author’s purpose and different ways the text may be organized. When we read A Place for Frogs by Melissa Stewart, we focus on the problem-and-solution structure. For our December book report, students will read a book and wrap it. On the wrapping paper, they will draw or write clues about the story. We will use these books in a book exchange before Christmas. We are also learning test-taking skills and strategies. We continue our word study and spelling practice.

Religion- In addition to our continued discussion about  Advent, students are completing and sharing their Jesse Tree projects. We are also learning about the Sacrament of Confirmation.

4th Grade Social Studies: 4th-grade students will study the U.S. Midwest. We will discuss the Midwest’s climate, culture, resources, and landforms. Students will study the states and capitals of the Midwest and wrap up the unit by creating a fact book about their assigned Midwestern state.

At the end of December, we will read books about Christmas during different time periods in our country.

5th Grade Social Studies- In addition to learning about the Age of Exploration, we are practicing note-taking skills. We are learning how to find the main idea and support it with details. We are learning about early explorers and the advances in technology. We will complete activities to strengthen our understanding of the Columbian Exchange.

At the end of December, we will read books about Christmas during different time periods in our country.

Community- We have many fun activities planned for December. Our school is taking part in a pajama-and-boot drive to support the Pass Along Project. We are looking forward to our tree lighting. On crafternoon, we will make special ornaments as a gift for our families. We will visit Noel Tree Farm with our kindergarten buddies. There, we learn about Evergreen trees and roast marshmallows.
