February 2026
Reading- We will work on a book study for The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. Students will learn new vocabulary, identify plot elements, study characters, and make connections.
We will learn about the elements of a biography and read Delivering Justice as a class. Students will then read a biography independently, create a timeline, and give a presentation.
Religion- The first week of February, we had a visit from Decon Ray. He talked to us about listening to God and being part of the Church community. Next, we will discuss Lent and prepare for Easter. We are learning about the Stations of the Cross. Each week of Lent, Fifth-grade students will present the Stations of the Cross to the school.
4th Grade Social Studies- We will be learning about the West region of the United States. Students will learn about the states and capitals in that region, as well as the land, resources, and history.
5th Grade Social Studies- Students will learn about colonial life. Lessons will include daily life, slavery in the colonies, conflict and cooperation in the colonies, and the French and Indian War. During this unit, students will learn about the games colonial students played and different jobs in the colonies. They will also perform short reader's theater pieces about the thirteen colonies. At the end of the chapter, students will create their own colonies.
