Reading- In April, we focused on informational texts and poetry. Students had a chance to listen to a variety of poems and then had the opportunity to write their own poems. Some poems they wrote were poems inspired by The Important Book by Margaret Wise Brown, students, and Quatrain poems based on the characters of The One and Only Ivan.  Our Informational texts focused on environmental topics. We read Let Animals Be Wild and  Don’t Release Animals Back to the Wild, “Let’s Talk Trash,” and “It’s Time to Get Serious About Reducing Food Waste”.

Religion- We discussed the Easter season and how it is a time to rejoice. We also learned about Jesus’ healing ministry and the anointing of the sick, and how we are called to care for those who are sick. 

4th Grade Social Studies - This month, we discussed the principles of our government. Topics we covered: the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the branches of government, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens.

5th Grade Social Studies-  We learned about the United States as a young nation. We discussed the Articles of Confederation and its weaknesses, and then how the Constitution was created. We reviewed the branches of government and the Bill of Rights. We started to learn about the first Presidents of the United States.
