October News 4H

Wow! It's hard to believe that it is already October. Our fourth grade is hard at work organizing and getting used to switching classes for all their main subjects. They are quickly learning time management, a busy schedule and the class expectations for all the core teachers. I am very proud of them!

In religion, we are growing with Jesus Christ. We are learning about the Blessed Trinity-God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. A big focus of every chapter is how Jesus served others, and this was able to be incorporated into our first service project. Everyone has decorated and written a card for the "Holiday Cards for Our Military Challenge." Their creativity was awesome to witness, and we know that it will make many soldiers smile over the holiday season.

We continue to have our weekly Spelling words. These words are incorporated in our reading unit and the students will see these words throughout the story. During our morning work time, we work on many different spelling activities to prepare us for a spelling test on Friday afternoons. You can find your child's spelling words glued into their planner for each week.

In reading, we are reading and focusing on stories written in Chronological Order. The students are learning to develop knowledge about language to make connections between reading and writing. Each story has 5 new vocabulary words that the students will define. I love when my class is able make connections to personal experiences after reading a story. In grammar, we will work on prefixes mis-, en-,em- along with nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.

4th Grade Science - We completed our unit on the 5 different forms on Energy and moving into Forces & Motion!
5th Grade Science - We completed our unit on Matter and moving into Motion with a focus on Issac Newton's 3 laws of motion!

Both 4th and 5th grade science classes keep an interactive notebook that we use daily! It is full of science experiments and important vocabulary words!
