Welcome to PreK H!

WELCOME TO PRE-K!
Welcome to Pre-K H! This is my first year teaching here at St. Christopher Academy, and my fifth year teaching in a Pre-K classroom.

I am a graduate of Elizabethtown College with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Studies Education and certification in Early Childhood Education through Manchester Community College. I am working toward earning my Master's Degree in Teaching Elementary Education through Western Governor's University. I have lived in NH my whole life and currently reside in Derry with my husband, our three-year-old son and our Corgi. On the weekends, I enjoy baking, walking the local rail trails and being with my family.

I look forward to working with your child as they begin their journey through elementary school and having a great year!

December Notes
December is a month filled with joy and love. During December, Pre-K takes time each day to reflect on the promise God made us and fill our hearts with anticipation for the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. This month the children learn about Christmas and the many different ways people around the world come together to celebrate the season.

We begin the month learning about Christmas Around the World. We use map reading skills to travel to different countries, we sing and hear songs in different languages, and we read traditional Christmas stories.

Next, we do a weeklong unit on the Classic Tale "The Gingerbread Man". In class we will listen to many different variations of the tale, complete literacy and math activities using gingerbread men and finish the week by building gingerbread houses.

The final full week of school before vacation, we will be discussing the Nativity and the birth of Jesus. We will complete many different activities, say prayers and discuss why Jesus is an important figure in our life.

During the last three days leading up to Christmas vacation there are many activities taking place school wide that our children will take part in. We will be doing crafts, visiting the Polar Express and celebrating the holiday with lots of festive fun.

March Notes

March is the month of new beginnings. Easter caps off a month of introspection and reflection on how to bring ourselves closer to God and Jesus. In Pre-K, we will be practicing our common prayers as well as forming "thanking" prayers and "asking" prayers. Our curriculum reflects the seasonal change with mini units surrounding Spring, Weather, St. Patrick's Day and Easter.

We are working on our letter sounds in isolation as well as at the beginning of words. We will continue working on number recognition from 11-20, as well as examining more complex shapes.
