First Grade Art Class

​Your first grade student will have art once a week for 50 minutes. In first grade, my goal is to introduce our students to a variety of ways to make art. We get to try out collage, sculpture and mixed media projects, pointillism and even begin weaving. This is also the grade where students will begin to learn how to properly use tempera paint in art class. First graders get to practice using oil and chalk pastels. We finish the year with a unit on Prehistoric Art including cave paintings in oil pastel and creating our own petroglyphs in clay!
