Fifth Grade Art Class

Your fifth grade students will have art class once a week for 50 minutes. Fifth grade art class begins with exploring optical illusions. We will use lines to distort a two-dimensional piece of paper, use one-point perspective to make shapes come off the page, and even create a lenticular picture which is two images at once. They are always amazed at what they can do. We get to enjoy a couple projects using Sharpie and watercolor. First we can use shape pattern and line to create a variety of Zentangle patterns to combine into a landscape and finished with a watercolor wash. Similar techniques can be used for our street scene inspired by the illustrator Pete Sheeler in a long horizontal format. We like to end the year by having each student design a Zine (small Xeroxed booklet) in black and white using text and value to share with their whole class.
