September News

Welcome back to school! We are off to a great start, and it has been fun getting to know everyone. It's a fast paced routine for the fourth graders switching classes and having 4 different teachers. They have been amazing and are adjusting nicely.

In Religion, we just completed chapter 1, focusing on how Jesus shows us how to live, and understanding that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Our vocabulary words included Incarnation, Blessed Trinity, Disciples, Original Sin, Savior, Church, and Grace. The next chapter will focus on how Jesus Christ leads us to happiness.

In Reading, we are concentrating on autobiography and biography. Our stories have introduced us to a few important people and we talked about how to put our own stories in chronological order. We also did work with comparative adjectives, suffixes, and comprehension in this unit. The Spelling tests will be every week and a half. Words are written or glued in the student planners so there is easy access to them for review and homework. Spelling homework is Tuesday and Thursday, and in between they should be studying.

In English, the fourth graders have been learning about types of sentences, simple and complete subjects and predicates, and compound subjects and predicates. The fifth graders have been learning about common and proper nouns, singular and plural nouns, possessive nouns, and collective nouns. In both 4th and 5th grades, journal writing is incorporated each week with a prompt to encourage creativity and imagination. We will be moving onto personal narratives soon. I'm encouraging good note taking skills emphasizing accuracy, organization, and neatness. There is a lot of writing happening in English!
