February News

Brrr! It's cold out there! Please remember to send your children to school with coats, hats, and gloves/mittens. They will be cold outside at recess without proper attire.

We don't even have a full month of school as February vacation is right around the corner, but we will still be busy learning all we can. Catholic Schools Week kicked us off with great spirit and celebration, and each day we had fun themes to keep us smiling. What a special week!

Theology: Our unit on The Ten Commandments will bring us to the 3rd, with ways to observe the Lord's Day, and 4th, teaching us to respect and honor our parents, guardians,
and people in authority. We will discuss the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, and learn how to better grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Reading: Informational Texts and Realistic Fiction are our focuses this month. We are learning more vocabulary, Latin roots, context clues, and summarizing. Improving our fluency and better comprehension are the goals this month. Each week we are incorporating more writing into our lessons, with writing prompts or responding to questions in short answers. Our Because of Winn Dixie book study continues this month also.

English: 4th graders are still working with Adjectives and improving their writing by incorporating them into their pieces. 5th graders are continuing with Verbs and will be writing a Personal Narrative as they learn more about the writing process.
