October

I can't believe we have finished our first month of school!

Religion:  This month we will discuss how we Celebrate God's Love and the seven sacraments.  When discussing the sacraments, our focus will start with Baptism.

Math:  Our focus this month will be on fact families, missing addends, and problem-solving strategies.  We will then discuss place values.

Reading:  We will read an informational text about places within a community.  We will discuss main ideas then move onto poetry selections.  We will focus on text structures and patterns.

Phonics:  We will learn about consonant blends.  We will then move onto consonant digraphs (ch, sh, wh, th, & ph).  Finally we will discuss inflected ending: -s, -es, -ed, & -ing.

Grammar:  We will start learning about compound sentences. We will learn how to create them using a comma and a conjunction (and, but, or, nor).  Then we will learn about the different kinds of sentences (., ?, !).

Writing:  We will work on writing our own expository nonfiction story.  Then we will write a realistic fiction story and learn what resources can help us spell words correctly.
