September

This month we will be getting to know our new friends better, as well as learning our school rules and routines.

ELA- During morning meeting we read our morning message and correct any mistakes in the message. After we review some phonics skills on the rug. We practice rhyming, segmenting, blending, and letter sounds. Next, we work in our phonics book to strengthen  the skills the students need to become readers. We are reading stories about starting school, and while we read we are making predictions and connections.

Math- Students are learning to sort objects by color, shape, and size. Plus, the students are practicing counting and writing numbers.

Science- Students learned what scientists do. Then, they observed our class tree, asked questions, and recorded their observations.   As a class, we also talked about the life cycle of an apple.

Social Studies- We talked about good character and some qualities a person with good character may have. We discussed what it looks like when we are attentive.

Religion- Students learned the sign of the cross and how to say grace.  We talked about how God made us each special and about God’s love.
