January 2024

Happy New Year 2024!

January brings winter and Artic Animals are interesting to learn about and they enjoy the cold! Throughout the month we will learn facts and create a research book. The class will become ‘Winter Weather Watchers’ and observe how changes in temperature creates snow, ice or rain.  We will check the temperature daily throughout the month and graph results. Testing and experiments with snow, ice and water is interesting and fun. The math concept of volume and measurement will be explored with freezing and melting.

The math unit is telling ‘Time’. The students will practice telling time on the hour and half hour. This unit also includes the months of the year. The class will learn a song and sing it in Spanish and English.

The caterpillar continues to grow with sight words! The reading groups during learning centers practice early reading skills as they read leveled books to encourage success.

Each morning the students continue to learn with the “Bridge to Reading” program for foundational skills.

We continue to read bible stories daily. It is special time at the end of the day to pray and talk about the lesson and relate it to their life.

The character trait for January is Obedience. The elephant teaches the importance of following rules for safety.

A very special thank you for your participation and generosity to the’ Hat and Mitten Giving Tree’. They were donated and it made a difference for children in need. As our class patron St. Therese practiced...’Do small things with great love’. We will learn about St. Therese during Catholic School week.

As we begin 2024, our class will continue to learn, grow and explore! We look forward to many new experiences together! Your support and dedication to the class is sincerely appreciated!

With the winter weather and colder temperatures, please send to school each day with your child a hat, mittens, boots and a pair of shoes (leaving a pair in cubby may be easier than sending home each day) We do go out when it is 20 degrees and above. Names on clothing is suggested.

As we begin 2024, our class will continue to learn, grow and explore! We look forward to many new experiences together!

Best Wishes of good health and happiness in the New Year!
