February News

We are experiencing one of the kids' favorite weeks.  It's Catholic Schools Week.  We dressed in our favorite school spirit clothes and wrote papers about our favorite things at Saint Chris.  On Monday, we had Mass with Father David and sat with our buddies. We also got to write and send letters of appreciation to religious throughout the Diocese.  Our priest was Fr. Ray from Immaculate Conception in Nashua. On Wednesday, we got to compete in color wars.  It might be a new favorite activity.  Mismatched day was be celebrated on Thursday, and the students and staff went all out!  The kids got a frozen treat, too!  The absolute favorite day of the week is Friday.  It is PJ day!  We will end the day with a movie.

In Theology, we are talking about forgiveness.  We will do several activities to increase our understanding of God's forgiveness.  The class is becoming quite skilled at using the Bible.  Lent begins on the 14th, and the fifth grade will lead the school in the Stations of the Cross on Fridays.  Mrs. Joyce and I work closely together and will have participants from both rooms.

In Spelling, we have lessons 14 to 16.  The weekly work is given during morning work and due the next day. Looking to study?  Please go to https://www.spellingcity.com/users/[email protected].

In Reading, we are completing our January Book Report.   As a class, we read The One and Only Ivan.  We will write a poetic summary of the book.  They do such a great job on these.   The genre for February is Poetry.

In 5th grade math, we are adding and subtracting fractions. We will end the month using ratios, proportions, and percents.  Our fraction knowledge will come in handy.   The sections for ixl is:  L.

The 4th grade has just started their fraction unit.  They are learning how to make equivalent fractions, reduce fractions to lowest terms and compare/order fractions.  Later in the month,  we will add, subtract, and start multiplication of fractions.  Extra help is every Monday at 8 AM.  The sections for ixl are:  P, Q, and R.

In Accelerated Math, we have completed Book 1 and took our midterm.  We are starting Book 2 with a strong emphasis on working with exponents and exploring the scientific calculator.
