November News

How can it be November?  The school year is flying by.  We have completed our first quarter and are handling fifth grade like champions. There will be a sign up genius for conferences coming out shortly.  Conferences are Wednesday, November 15th after school.

In Theology, the fifth grade is starting their study of the Jesse Tree.  The final project will be due in December 8th.  The Jesse Tree is a representation of Jesus’ family tree.  Our regular class is studying the sacraments and the lives of Saints. We are completing a mini Saint project in small groups.  They will be on display outside of our class this month.

In Spelling, lists come home on Mondays.  The list can be found in students’ agendas.  A wonderful resource for practice is https://www.spellingcity.com/users/[email protected].  This month our lessons include 6, 7, and 8.

In reading, our series focuses on nonfiction and informational text.  We are practicing our close reading skills. The November book report's genre is historical fiction. The book is read both in school and at home.  All of my book reports are completed in class. At the end of the month, students will be picking a children's Christmas book to read to their buddies as their December book report.

In fifth grade math, we are dividing.  The ixl sections are E, EE, and FF.  We will divide with whole numbers and decimals.  We also learn how to eliminate remainders.  The fourth grade continues to multiply. Daily fact practice is needed. The ixl sections are F, H, and I. Both grades have 30 minutes of ixl due every week.  It counts on as a quiz and their weekly ixl grade can be found on the bottom of their weekly basic facts quizzes.  The website is www.ixl.com/signin/stchris.  User names and passwords can be found in their agendas.
